Wee progress is still progress

I was away from home for a few days because of going to head office for work training.  It wasn't just me; the whole sales team was there, although that's really not that many people considering we're a small company.  And even though I'm not a sales rep, I'm still considered part of the team.

Anyway, while I was gone, Edmonton got dumped on - 6 or 7 inches of snow from the looks of things.  So it was all waiting for me on my car and my parking spot when I got home.  It was late enough when I got home Friday night that I decided not to bother trying to shovel then.  I had an appointment with my acupuncturist late Saturday morning, though, so I got up at first daylight to try to get the snow cleared away.

I really don't have that much of an area to shovel.  The hard part is that if my car is already there, I don't want to move my car until the snow is shoveled because otherwise I'm just packing down the snow behind it, not to mention tromping through the snow to get into my car.  There is room on one side of my car to pile up snow, but not the other.  So for half to 2/3 of the shoveling, I have to pick it up and carry it to dump it.

There is a point to all this babbling, I promise.

The last few years, I have not been able to shovel all the way around my car in one go.  My back just couldn't take yet.  And yes, I'm using my legs as much as I can, but it's shoveling.  You're gonna use your back!  My back would get really stiff and tight as I was shoveling.  I'd have to come inside and take a break, sometimes even two breaks if there was a lot of snow, and go out later and finish.

Yesterday morning, even with there being a lot of snow, I did it all in one go!!  There was so much snow, that I was even literally shoveling snow off of my car.  I didn't even realize I was doing so much until I was almost finished.  I shoveled everything without stopping and my back was still okay!  I nearly cried; I held it together because I was a little worried that the tears would freeze to my face.  (I believe it was about -14C at the time.)  I completely attribute this to the training and boxing class I've been doing the last few months.  I mean, the class is only once a week, so it's not like I'm working out all the time or anything, but I felt like my strength and my core were a little better and this just confirms that.  It makes me so happy and it just motivates me to keep going and try to work a little harder!!

Good stuff going on

This morning I bought my plane ticket to head south for the week of New Year's!!  I'm really excited about it, so now I have the trouble of being patient for the next two months.  But I know it'll get here before I know it!

The really big, really good news of the week is that Brother FINALLY got a job!!!!!!  If I remember right, he was unemployed for 4.5 years.  Hard to fathom, isn't it?  I don't know much about his new job, but he seems happy about it, so that's what counts.  I know that it's a big relief for Brother, his girlfriend, and for Mom.  What surprised me was how relieved I was when I found out.  I nearly cried.  It makes me feel better for his relationship with his GF, for their financial health, but maybe more than anything, it makes me less worried about his mental and emotional health.  Even if Brother and I aren't close, I don't want anything bad to happen.  So this is super good news!!
